Following the tragic death of a two-year-old boy who fell into an open manhole in Sibu, Sarawak Deputy Minister Datuk Michael Tiang urged immediate action from local authorities. He directed the Sibu Municipal Council, Public Works Department, and Department of Irrigation and Drainage to inspect and replace all missing or damaged manhole covers. Tiang expressed condolences to the grieving family and emphasized the need for proactive measures to address this public safety issue, regardless of jurisdictional responsibility.
