Datuk Wan Ahmad Farid Wan Salleh, Malaysia's 17th Chief Justice, pledged to protect the judiciary and uphold its independence. In his inaugural address, he called on judges, judicial officers, the Attorney General's Chambers, the Malaysian Bar, and all stakeholders to build a free, resilient, efficient, knowledgeable, and accessible judicial system. He emphasized moving forward and building the future of the judiciary for the nation. Wan Ahmad Farid, 62, formerly a Court of Appeal judge, replaced Tun Tengku Maimun Tuan Mat. He previously served as political secretary to former Prime Minister Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and as Deputy Home Minister.
