Malaysia's Ministry of Works reported 2,184 accidents on unlit federal roads between 2023 and July 2024. In response, the ministry has installed new streetlights at 256 locations this year, costing RM25 million. Minister Alexander Nanta Linggi stated the installations prioritize high-risk areas like intersections, bends, and bridges with accident records. The ministry continues to identify areas needing lighting to improve road safety. Pothole repairs are also addressed within 24 hours of reports, with patrols ensuring prompt action on minor road damage.
