Sunnyda Yok Nun, a member of Malaysia's Semai tribe, is part of the country's first all-female, all-Indigenous wildlife ranger unit dedicated to gibbon conservation. Driven by a childhood fascination with the endangered primates, Sunnyda joined the Pahang-based initiative led by the Gibbon Conservation Society. The program empowers Indigenous women, often facing societal limitations, to contribute to conservation efforts. The society currently cares for 29 gibbons and aims to eventually hand over the project entirely to the rangers.
