The Indonesian Ulema Council (MUI) strongly opposes the idea of opening casinos in the country, stating it contradicts religious principles, the Constitution, and moral values. Golkar Party MP Galih Kartasasmita suggested casinos on May 8th as an 'out-of-the-box' solution to increase state revenue. This proposal has been met with firm resistance from the MUI.
