The Penang state government reported a RM65.3 million surplus for the first quarter of 2025, ending March 31. Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow attributed the surplus to new revenue streams and expenditure reductions. The state's revenue reached RM268.5 million against an expenditure of RM203.2 million. The Consolidated Fund stood at RM1.535 billion. While 2024 ended with a RM174.09 million deficit, it was a significant improvement over the RM358.8 million deficit in 2023.
