Penang's gas and petroleum pipelines undergo rigorous annual safety audits by the Department of Occupational Safety and Health (DOSH) to ensure compliance and prevent accidents. Inspections cover integrity management, operations, and maintenance, with increased audits from 7 in 2022 to 19 so far in 2023. Pre-operation inspections and tests are mandatory, and storage locations are also checked annually. Surprise inspections target pipelines without operating permits. The State Disaster Management Committee reviews safety biannually, covering the 42km Peninsular Gas Utilisation project pipeline that crosses key areas in Penang.
