Sarawak to become ageing state by 2028 amid citizenship application delays, says Fatimah
Sarawak is processing 628 out of 1,567 citizenship applications received between 2018 and 2023 as of April 30, 2024. The state also approved 42 applications for 'K' status inclusion in MyKads. A Special Task Force addressing citizenship issues received 5,243 applications in 2023, approving 2,602 for identity document issuance. In 2024, 3,885 out of 7,981 applications were approved, while 6,737 were rejected overall due to various reasons. Concerns were raised about Sarawak's declining birth rate and skewed gender ratio favoring male births.
