Triggered by a tax-heavy finance bill, the protests, known as the Gen Z protests, peaked when thousands stormed parliament, forcing President Ruto to withdraw the bill. While the protests were initially leaderless and united diverse groups, divisions have emerged. Some, like Hanifa Adan, continue street activism, while others, like Kasmuel McOure, have joined established political parties, causing friction within the movement.
