Monsoon floods in a rebel-held Myanmar border town with China have killed six people, according to a spokesperson for the armed group controlling the area. Laiza town, bordering Yunnan province, experienced flash floods starting Monday with waist-high muddy water flowing through streets. Laiza is a stronghold of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA), which has fought Myanmar's military for decades. The floods destroyed around 100 houses. Rescue operations are underway but hampered by damaged roads.
