A Chinese investment delegation, led by Sabah-China Chamber of Commerce president Datuk Frankie Liew, visited the Firewood Protected Forest in Kampung Sugud, Penampang to explore potential development of traditional Chinese medicinal herbs. The 1,000-acre forest, hosted by Datuk Seri Panglima Clarence Bongkos Malakun, is believed suitable for herb cultivation, with over 300 types already identified, including local ginseng varieties. The forest, primarily Lowland Mixed Dipterocarp Forest, also contains valuable timber species. Further studies are underway to document the medicinal plant resources.
